It was reported in The Cambridge Chronicle and University Journal, Isle of Ely Herald, and Huntingdonshire Gazette, April 20 1867:

Joseph Gateson, labourer, Haddenham (on warrant), was charged with assault upon Emily, his wife, on the 9th day of April, by striking her on the face, and knocking her down. Fined 20s., costs 11s. 2d., in default, 21 days' imprisonment. The defendant, a most worthless character, was locked up.
