COUNTY BENCH, TUESDAY
THEFT - Elijah James with stealing a bag, knife and billhook, value 2s. 6d. , the property of James Brixton, on December 27th, at Sandhurst. The prosecutor said that about 5.30 p.m. he went into the "White Swan" and put down his basket on the seat in the tap-room. About an hour afterwards it was gone. The prisoner was in the bar. Edward Lyford said he was in the "White Swan" with the prisoner. The prisoner had his horse and cart at the door. Witness saw prisoner pick up the bag. P.c. Goddard, stationed at Sandhurst, said he went to the prisoner's house at Darby Green about 11 p.m., and found the bag in a large basket under the table. The prisoner pleaded guilty and was fined 20s.
