Transcript of William's will:

THIS IS THE LAST WILL and TESTAMENT of me WILLIAM JAMES of Sandhurst in the county of Berks Yeoman I direct all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses to be paid and satisfied and subject thereto I give and bequeath all my household furniture and effects and all other my personal estate unto my dear wife Jane for her own use and benefit absolutely I give and devise all my cottages lands hereditaments and premises and all other my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever after her death I give and devise the cottage or tenement with the garden ground thereto belonging now in my own occupation unto my daughter Mary and her husband William Gale for and during the term of their natural lives and the life of the survivor of them and after the death of the survivor of them my said daughter and her said husband I give and devise the same cottage and premises unto my son Elias James Upon trust to sell and dispose of the same cottage and premises by such ways and means as he shall think most advisable and to stand possessed of the monies to arise from such sale after payment of the expenses incident thereto Upon trust to pay and divide the same unto and equally between all and every the children of my said daughter Mary as joint tenants Provided there shall be no issue of my said daughter Mary I hereby declare that the said cottage and premises shall fall into and become part of my residuary real estate and be subject to the devise therefore hereinafter contained As to all the rest residue and remainder of my cottages lands hereditaments and real estate I give and devise the same unto my son Elias his heirs and assigns Upon trust after the death of my said wife to sell the same cottages lands hereditaments and real estate in such a manner and under such stipulations and upon such terms and conditions in all respects as he or they shall think fit with power to buy in or rescind or vary any contract for sale without being answerable for loss with power also to give valid receipts and may for the purposes aforesaid or any of them execute and do all such assurances and things as he or they shall think fit And shall stand possessed of the monies to arise from such sale or sales after payment of all expenses incident thereto Upon trust to pay and divide the balance of such monies unto and equally between Henry Hazard William James Letitia Fifield Elijah James Freedom Ravin Francis Maria Holder the said Elias James and Jesse James share and share alike as tenants in common the share of any woman under this my will to be for her separate estate free from the debts control or engagements of the husband I appoint my said wife and my said son Elias Executrix and Executor of this my and and hereby revoke all former and other wills by me heretofore made do declare this to be my last will and testament. ON the 14th day of June 1906 Probate of this Will was granted to Elias James the surviving exector.
