Note
William started his petition for a divorce from Lilian on 20th December 1918 with A Taylor, Solicitor of Bristol. It was "ordered that William be admitted as a Poor Person under the Rules of the Supreme Court 1914 for the purpose of prosecuting a suit for divorce". This ordered was dated 21st January 1919.
An Affidavit in support of the petition in the High Court of Justice states the following:
I, William Henry Jones of Yate Cottage, Chipping Sodbury in the County of Gloucestershire, motor driver, the petitioner make Oath and say(3) as follows:
1. That the statements contained in paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 7 and 8 of my said Petition dated the fifth day of February 1919 are true.
2. That the statements contained in paragraphs (blank) and (blank) of my said Petition are true, to the best of my knowledge, information and belief.
3. That there is no Collusion or Connivance between me and my(4) wife Lilian Jones in any way whatsoever.

The humble petition of William Henry Jones of Yate Cottage, Chipping Sodbury in the county of Gloucester
Sheweth
1. That on the 27th day of July 1907 your Petitioner was lawfully married to Lilian Jones (then Lilian Rendell spinster) at the Parish of St John Baptist, Eastover, Bridgwater in the County of Somerset.
2. That after the said marriage your Petitioner lived and cohabited with his said wife at 7, All Saints Terrace, Bridgwater in the County of Somerset and at divers other places and there are now living issue of the said marriage three children viz:-
William George Jones born on the 6th day of February 1909
Randolph Sidney Jones born on the 1st day of March 1911
and Robert Moyle Jones born on the 8th day of March 1914.
3. That the said Lilian Jones has frequently committed adultery with Alfred Hazwell Cook at 1 Liberty Place, Bridgwater who is employed at the Electric Works, Bridgwater as a labourer and resides at 13 Melbourne Terrace, Bristol Road, Bridgwater.
4. That on the First day of November 1918 and to the present time at 1 Liberty Place, Bridgwater in the County of Somerset, the said Lilian Jones habitually committed adultery with the said Alfred Hazwell Cook.
5. That your Petitioner is in the Service of the Royal Air Force as a motor driver number 28254 and resides at Yate Cottage, Chipping Sodbury and is domiciled in England.
6. That the said Lilian Jones is of no occupation and resides at 1 Liberty Place, Bridgwater and is domiciled in England.
7. That there have not been any proceedings previous hereto with reference to the said marriage in the Divorce Division of the High Court of Justice by or on behalf of either of the parties to the said marriage.
8. That your Petitioner has not lived or cohabited with his said wife Lilian Jones since October 1918.
Wherefore the Petitioner prays that his said marriage may be dissolved and that he may have the custody of his said children and such further and other relief in the premises as to this Honorable Court may seem fit.
