Note

At the time of their marriage, William and Helen lived at 62 Byrne Road, Wolverhampton. Their marriage certificate names William's father as Randolph George Jones, a deceased carpenter. Oddly though, this name is an amalgamation of his first two son's names, they being William GEORGE and RANDOLPH Sidney. The marriage was witnessed by Kenneth Jenkins, Helen's illegitimate son, and Jessie Jones, their daughter. Having found that William's first marriage did not end in divorce, I have searched for the death of Lilian Jones, but so far have found nothing up to William and Helen's marriage. Did she die or did William commit bigamy?

I have searched the death indexes from 1882 up until 1944 and can find no death registration for a Randolph George Jones and I have since found evidence to confirm that William was born to Henry Richard Jones and Jessie Ann Dartnall.

Margaret, their daughter, told me that she remembers visiting a granny Appleby in Kent, but she wasn't sure of the connection to her family. As it turns out, granny Appleby was Jessie Ann Dartnell and the Appleby surname was from her second husband, Alfred Young Appleby.

Jessie's first husband was Henry Richard Jones, a gardener and this is the name shown on William's birth certificate.
